Best Internet Plans in Montreal (2026)

Start with something most comparison sites will not tell you: there is no Montreal price list. Unlike Toronto, which has Beanfield, or Vancouver, which has Novus, Montreal has no provider locked to the city that changes the maths.

The choice, in one paragraph

At most Montreal addresses you can buy Videotron cable or Bell fibre, and each is sold to you twice: once at the parent’s price, once through a cheaper brand the same company owns. Videotron’s own Helix tiers are $68/mo and $75/mo. Bell’s symmetrical gigabit is $130/mo, and Bell’s cheaper brand EBOX sells 1000 Mbps down with 750 up for $60/mo$65.

EBOX is the best value on this page and it is owned by Bell. Bell acquired it in February 2022 and merged it with Distributel later that year; EBOX’s own privacy policy lists it among Bell’s family of companies. Montrealers switch to EBOX to escape Bell pricing and frequently believe they have escaped Bell. They have not — they have found Bell’s cheaper shelf, which is a good outcome if price was the goal and no outcome at all if it was not.

What actually varies by address here

Whether fibre reaches your unit. Montreal’s housing stock is full of walk-up plexes and pre-war buildings, and fibre-to-the-home was retrofitted into it unevenly. Two triplexes on the same street can differ. Bell and EBOX both run on that fibre, so if it has not reached you, the two best-upload options on this page are both unavailable and the real choice narrows to Videotron cable or oxio on Videotron cable.

Whether your landlord or syndicate has already wired the building. In older divided co-ownership buildings the installation question is sometimes not yours to answer alone. Ask before you book an appointment.

What installation costs. The CRTC’s June 2026 fee ban removed activation and modification fees, but installation work at your address is still chargeable — and in a century-old plex where a line has to be pulled, that is the fee most likely to appear on a Montreal bill.

• Fibre has not reached your building: Videotron cable, or oxio on it. The fibre options are not available to you regardless of price, and it is worth confirming that before spending an evening comparing them.

Is internet cheaper in Montreal than in Toronto? No, and it isn’t close. The cheapest plan we track in Quebec is $63/mo, or $60 while EBOX’s promotion lasts. Ontario’s is $38.95/mo. Quebec’s reputation for cheap telecom is earned on wireless, not home internet — Ontario has a deep layer of cheap cable resellers that Quebec never developed.

Is EBOX independent? No. Bell owns it. So do Distributel, Oricom and Acanac. In Quebec the only provider we track that is owned by neither Bell nor Quebecor is oxio.

Videotron or Bell fibre? If fibre reaches your unit and you upload as well as download — video calls, large files, cloud backup — fibre is a materially different product and EBOX is the cheap way into it. If your household mostly consumes, Videotron’s cable is competitive and the bundle may be worth more to you than the upload.
