Best Internet Plans in Vancouver (2026)

Vancouver has the cheapest symmetrical gigabit fibre in Canada, and it comes from a company most of the country has never heard of.

Novus sells 1000 Mbps down and 1000 Mbps up for $55/mo. For comparison, Bell charges $130/mo for its symmetrical fibre in Ontario and Quebec. Same shape of product, less than half the price.

Why Novus is unusual

Almost every cheap internet provider in Canada is a reseller. TekSavvy, oxio, VMedia, EBOX — all of them buy wholesale access to somebody else’s cable or fibre and sell it on. That is a legitimate business and it saves people real money, but it means their pricing is capped by what the incumbent charges them.

Novus built its own fibre. It owns the line into the building, which is why it can sell gigabit for $55/mo when Telus’s 500 Mbps tier — half the speed — is $70/mo and Rogers Ignite’s gigabit is $95/mo. Against that Rogers plan, Novus is $40 a month cheaper and uploads twenty times faster.

It also comes with two-year guaranteed pricing and no term commitment, which is an unusual pairing: you get the certainty of a contract price without the contract.

The constraint is coverage. Novus reaches Vancouver and nearby Lower Mainland municipalities, and only in buildings it has wired. Not the city, not the neighbourhood — the building. Outside that footprint it is not an option at any price, which is why it does not appear on our BC-wide table as a normal row.

What we corrected about Novus

You will find Novus quoted at $50 for gigabit elsewhere. We carried that figure too, and it was wrong.

Novus’s “Internet 1000” is $55/mo. The $50 price is real, but it belongs to the 100 Mbps tier — the cheaper price had been paired with the faster speed, and we repeated it without checking. We corrected it on August 22, 2026.

We also dropped a “free first month” claim that had been attached to this row. We could not verify it, and we would rather remove an unverifiable perk than carry it forward because it looked good.

This table is filtered to Vancouver, so it includes Novus. Elsewhere in BC — Victoria, Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George — the Novus row does not apply and the BC guide is the better page.

If Novus doesn’t reach your building

Telus PureFibre has the widest fibre coverage in the city and the province: $70/mo for symmetrical 500 Mbps, $105/mo for 1.5 Gbps down and 940 Mbps up — Telus’s own terms exempt that one tier from its symmetrical claim. Its pricing assumes a two-year term, so compare it over two years rather than over month one.

oxio is $49/mo for 50 down and 50 up on the Rogers/Shaw cable network, self-install, no contract. Symmetrical speed on cable at that price is genuinely unusual, and it is the strongest budget option here that does not compromise on upload.

VMedia is the lowest usable entry point at $34.95/mo. Note that its BC tier uploads at 2.5 Mbps, where the company’s Ontario tier gets 5 — VMedia provisions this province differently. It is also a Videotron brand, not an independent.

Rogers Ignite at $95/mo is gigabit download and 50 Mbps upload, on a term. In a city where Novus and Telus both sell symmetrical fibre, that upload figure is the thing to weigh.

The $29 question

Wakey sells the cheapest unlimited home internet in Canada at $29/mo, and it is available here. It is 5 Mbps down and 0.5 Mbps up — below the CRTC’s 50/10 Mbps basic-service target.

For one or two people browsing, emailing and banking, that is a real and defensible plan. For a Vancouver household streaming to a TV or taking video calls, it is not. Wakey’s 25 Mbps tier at $40/mo$45 is the honest entry point, though at that price oxio gives you twice the download and twenty times the upload.

FAQ

How do I know if my building has Novus? Check your civic address on Novus’s own site. Coverage is building-by-building and no comparison site — ours included — can tell you from a postal code.

Is Novus actually independent? Yes, and unusually so: it is not owned by an incumbent and it owns the fibre it sells. TekSavvy and oxio are independent but resell. EBOX is Bell’s, VMedia is Videotron’s. Novus and Toronto’s Beanfield are the only two providers on this site that are both.

Novus or Telus PureFibre? If Novus reaches you, it is faster than Telus’s 500 Mbps tier, cheaper than it, and does not need a two-year term. If it does not reach you, Telus is the best fibre in the city. There is not much of a middle case.

Is symmetrical upload worth paying for? If you take video calls, upload large files, back up to cloud storage, or stream out, yes — and cable plans will not tell you this in their headline number. Rogers Ignite’s gigabit uploads at 50 Mbps; Novus’s uploads at 1000. If none of that describes your household, buy on download and price instead.

One fewer fee since June 2026

A BC provider can no longer charge you an activation or modification fee — the CRTC extended its fee ban to the Internet Code on June 12, 2026. Installation work at your address is still chargeable, which in an older Vancouver building can be a real line item, and a promo rate tied to a term can still be lost if you leave early.
