Our methodology
Money advice is only worth as much as the process behind it. Here's exactly how we work, so you can judge whether to trust what you read here. For the formal commitments behind this process — independence, affiliate links, and reader trust — see our editorial policy.
How we verify prices
Every price on CompareZone is checked against the carrier's own website or an authoritative source, and stamped with the date we checked it. You'll see that "last verified" date on plan cards, comparison tables, and at the top of every guide.
We re-check prices at the start of each month, and again whenever a carrier announces a change or during major sale events like Black Friday. Canadian carriers change pricing frequently — in July 2026 alone, Fido, Koodo, and Virgin Plus all raised prices by $5/month — so a stale number is a misleading one.
We never invent or estimate a price. If we can't verify a figure, we don't publish it. Where a price is promotional or conditional (for example, requiring autopay), we say so.
How we choose which plans to list
We deliberately track a focused shortlist rather than every plan in Canada. A plan earns a place if it's competitive on price for its data tier, comes from a carrier with meaningful coverage, and is available to new customers on a bring-your-own-phone basis. We exclude short-lived promotional plans that most readers won't be able to get.
How we rank recommendations
Rankings are based on price relative to what you get — data, network quality, and included features — plus practical trade-offs like whether the carrier has physical stores or self-serve support only. Our badges are calculated from the data, not chosen by hand: "Cheapest" is the lowest monthly price, "Best value" is the most data per dollar, and "Most data" is the largest allotment.
Commission never affects ranking or placement.
How we make money
At the moment, we don't. CompareZone runs no affiliate or referral links, takes no payment for placement, and earns nothing when you switch carriers. We would rather say that plainly than imply a revenue model we don't have.
If we do add affiliate links later, we'll disclose them on every page that carries one, and the rule we intend to keep is the one that matters: some carriers we frequently recommend have no affiliate program at all, and we would still recommend them, because leaving them out would make our advice worse.
What we get wrong
We're a small independent site and carrier pricing is a moving target. Regional pricing, limited-time offers, and in-store-only deals may differ from what we show. That's why we tell you to confirm the current price on the carrier's own site before signing up — and why every price carries the date we checked it.
If you find an error, let us know and we'll fix it.
